Spire of Fire in Reno, Nevada

June 26, 2011

An Expedition over the Sierra revealed the Black Rock Arts Foundation Civic Arts Committee placed Spire of Fire next to the RiverWalk in downtown Reno. Spire of Fire, by local Reno artists Steve Atkins and Eric Smith, is BRAF’s fourth installation at the Foundation’s public art venue in Reno, Nevada. Black Rock Arts Foundation Advisory Board member Maria Partridge and Richard Johnson along with BRAF & Burner volunteers spearheaded a tremendous effort once again to bring Burning Man art & culture into the default world.

This VIMEO is by someone named Roy Two Thousand. Judging by this excellent video, Roy must be a fascinating fellow. I do not know Roy, but have experienced what you will see here. It is not for the faint of art.

The San Francisco Pianobike

May 3, 2011

I work in San Francisco’s Dogpatch where the sun shines frequently and the Hell’s Angel’s roar up and down the street going to and from their headquarters. The office and printing plant that I work out of is the former showroom for Esprit Clothing. The neighborhood is famous for several things one of which is across the street where Behind the Green Door was filmed with Marilyn Chambers. Next door to the printing plant is a live/work building filled with artists. On Friday nights, they often have Open Studios. One particular friday night, one of the live/work artists, St. Frankenstein, was sitting in front of the building playing his Pianobike. It is a home built, DIY, contraption that sounds marvelous as you will hear in this video. Boogie away brother… you can learn more about St. Frankenstein by clicking HERE

Artists Extraordinnaire

September 17, 2010

Dr. Core and Dr. Cat are extraordinarily talented artists. Their gifts have been applied to Burning Man, the Black Rock Arts Foundation, the Oregon Country Fair and myriad other worthy endeavors. This short video was shot of them at Center Camp in 2010 in front of one of their paintings they created there.

The View from Huracan

September 14, 2010

Huracan- recreation of the God of Fierce Wind from the Mayan Culture:

Huracan once again provided the transportation during the annual intrepid Expedition beyond the default world. Art unfolded at every twist and turn as the Mind Shaft Society explored the nuances among the dust particles. Embarkation was at the Bureau of Artistic Development where Creative License was granted. Debarkation was at the Trauma Unit, our minds and bodies having been fully blown.

Shipwrecks at the Golden Gate

May 31, 2010

The Golden Gate was first discovered by non natives in the 1700s. Over the following decades ships wrecked on the rocks at the water’s edge. The area on the south side of the Golden Gate is known as Lands End. A 36 foot sailboat with a husband and wife aboard, ran into the rocks in a gale wind on May 24, 2010. This video was shot on May 25 searching for the boat which I did not find. The husband and wife washed up on Ocean Beach 1.5 miles south and west. They had drowned.

Let Me Go

May 11, 2010

The Intrepid Traveler, Ken Babbs, also known as Kapn’Ken, also known as the SkyPilot, also known as Isaac, Simon, Eli, Elizabeth and about six other kids Dad, sent communique from somewhere in Oregon. I am not quite sure what it’s about but here it is… let me know if you figure it out. But remember, never trust a Merry Prankster.
